Mamie Gâteaux is arguably my favorite place in Paris. Tucked away on Rue du Cherche-Midi in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, this salon de thé fills the vacant hole left in my heart by the closing of Sympathy for the Kettle in the East Village. I first read about Mamie Gâteaux from Tommy of This is Naive in my search for a cozy cafe. Thankfully it didn't take me long to visit and realize what a gem existed just a metro ride away. I've been waiting to write about M.G. until I developed my latest roll of film, but I figured I can continue to gush about this place until I leave in May. These photographs are from my first visit with K. and Y. one sunny Saturday afternoon. Since that fateful day in late January, I've been back approximately ten times. I can't seem to gush enough. Above is my favorite offered dessert, une tarte aux pistaches et aux cerises. It goes down nicely with a pot of earl grey (though I'm wont to argue that most things do) and a long walk through the city.

If you have a chance to visit, I highly recommend stopping by the adjoining antique shoppe and store owned by Mamie Gâteaux. It truly seals an already signed, sealed, delivered deal.

  1. that tarte looks so delicious and so does the lovely tea. Sounds like you're having a great time in Paris and who can blame you when you find gems like the ones you've mentioned.

  2. Pistachios and cherries! I would never have thought to put them together, but it sounds (and looks) absolutely scrumptious. Lucky girl!

  4. marcine! you have to go to cafe de l'industrie in bastille and get the confit de canard and mousse aux lait et fruit rouges for dessert! it'll make your eyes roll to the back of your head.

  6. stumbled upon your blog and it's lovely!
if you liked mamie gateaux you should go to Tea and Tattered Pages, it's an english bookshop in the 6th run by the cutest old (very old!) lady and it's pretty much all second hand. There's a cute little tea room in the back and a cat who wanders around!
