I have a troupe of dogs. They are mostly of the wooden, head-shaking variety, but I love them nonetheless. I've always been of the dogs > cats camp, but a few years ago I had the great idea of getting a kitten and a pup at the same time and naming them Jules and Jim. I'm still terribly partial to the idea, but I'm crossing my fingers nonetheless. Back in New York, my dear friend Dana and I brush the tails of dogs walking by whenever we're together. With M. and W. it takes us twice as long to get anywhere when we keep stopping to pet every dog we see. I suppose it isn't mere coincidence that most of my friends are ardent dog-lovers. And if you haven't seen it, Mon Oncle by Jacques Tati is worth it alone for the scenes with the packs of dogs. Apparently in his "research" for the film, Tati followed dogs around for days just to see what they did. I can't think of a better way to spend my day. No joke!

ReplyDeletethough if jules and jim were both dogs, you'd stand a better chance of running the length of the louvre together.

totally with you. i am absolutely incapable of passing a dog on the street without getting the goofiest smile on my face and try to coo at him/her, with the owner frighteningly pulling him/her away... currently babysitting my boyfriend's mother's two dogs, which is lovely, but makes me miss having a dog more than ever...
ReplyDeletep.s. just discovered the blog, really like it...
Great collection!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! I don't think I could ever choose between kits and pups, although we currently only have kits, as wee apartment dwellers. But my ultimate dream is to have not one, but two Newfoundlands. O glory glory.
ReplyDeleteYour collection is darling! I especially love the second one! What a funny fellow!
Totally understand. One night my boyfriend discovered that I was trawling the internet for pictures of dogs to stare goofily at and insisted I find a way around all the obstacles in the way of me getting my own pooch. Got this wee guy now and couldn't be happier -
