Camera accidents. We all have them. With film, it can be particularly nerve wrecking. Sometimes your finger slips while winding and you snap the roll in half. Other times your camera jangles in your bag and takes a photograph of dark leather insides. Despite losing my lens cap somewhere in the Latin Quarter and having a permanently broken light meter, I am faithful to my old friend. It's a sturdy hunk of metal, just the right weight and feel in my hands. This past year, my camera has gone everywhere with me. I've decided (in my dreams no less) that I should make a new strap for the dear thing. Cream hemp rope should do the trick. While I'm at it, I need to find some embroidery floss (fil de broderie) for a book in the making. To BHV I go!

In other news, I may have the worst cold of my life. My bed is a sea of tissues. I think a fresh bundle of strawberries from the outdoor market and a handful of cannelés are in order for recuperation. I'm getting a bit sick of herbal tea and pots and pots of honey and hot water. Are there any home-remedies you can recommend while I watch movies in bed? I'd be ever so grateful!

  2. You won't have the best breath, but raw garlic is great at fighting colds. You can swallow little pieces with water like a pill, or chop finely and put on toast, or add some to a soup... just eat lots and lots. Apple cider vinegar is also great. If you don't mind a slightly sour taste you can put a Tbsp. or 2 in a glass of water. Hope these work!

  5. My home remedies are more for a sore throat than a cough, but it might help clear out your sinuses if they're bothering you!

Vinegar is a natural antiseptic - do shots of vinegar whenever your throat starts to hurt and unless it's an infection like strep throat it should clear up easily!

To make vinegar more palatable, add a shot of vinegar to hot water with lemon and/or honey. It actually tastes kind of good ...
