Oddities: not touching a pen (the way I like) for a month, making friends with Alexei the Russian over Francis Lai's 1966 score to A Man and A Woman, finding a hundred dollar bill as I rounded the corner on my way to the bank, a brief encounter with a seventy-seven year old named Lawrence whilst tapping fingers to Dixieland jazz, surreptitiously tossing a penny into the shallow waters in the Temple of Dendur, the vague recognition of strangers, & those two unexpected bowling strikes last Wednesday afternoon. Oh yes, and I have quite apparently developed an odd fascination with the ever beguiling Bruce Springsteen.

  2. I second that - that's extremely good karma on your part! I could really use with happening upon large bills at the moment, haha.
Your life sounds truly lovely. Also, that scarf you're knitting is such a nice colour! I really need to go learn...

  6. Hello there,

I've just discovered your blog and really love it, the way you write and your photos. The picture of you is excellent and it's nice to find so much light and colour on these grey days. Finding money on the street would be lovely.

  18. "I'm on Fire" is the best! My ex and I made up a Bruce Springsteen drink once... I think it was layered blue CuraƧao, Chambord, vodka and a vanilla cream. You know, like red white & blue? Yeah, we didn't go very far with it.

What will you spend your money on?

  20. Lawrence! Did you catch his last name, by any chance? Was it something like Horn or Thorne?

I met an old man named Lawrece once. I think he was a wizard, but truly he was an ex-professor at Cooper Union who was obsessed with mescaline, art and the philosopher Plotinus. He wanted me to be his protege (not kidding) and we were supposed to have our first lesson in God knows what at the Met. However, as unfortunate coincidence would have it, I googled him before I went and the first name that came up was that of a serial killer. I knew it wasn't him, but needless to say, I didn't show up. It just seemed like too bad an omen.

I am so glad you met a Lawrence; I hope you wished him well.

    Oh, and by the way,
    I'm Stella.
